In the wake of the WannaCry ransomware attack: Where to now for chiropractic professionals?
As PRO clients would be aware, in May 2017, the world experienced the WannaCry ransomware attack, a global cyber-attack that brought some businesses to crisis point.
Taking many by surprise, health records were hacked into with cyber-attackers demanding money for access to computers and files. You can read in detail how widespread the attack was in our appendix below.
Many businesses were lucky not to be impacted by WannaCry, but this does not mean other attacks will not happen. In fact, another major cyber-attack hit businesses again in June 2017.
In the days after WannaCry first occurred, media articles were published warning small businesses were particularly at risk of becoming victims of future attacks with many lacking expert IT knowledge.
So what can you do to protect your practice?
With most of PRO’s clients small business owners, it is critical we spread the message that you need to keep secure IT systems and patient health records.
Cloud-based IT platforms with sophisticated encryption technology that auto-archive data are the only effective means of protecting a business’ patient health data, including its diagnostic images.
